Three things worth knowing before you start
A foreign company cannot hold the certificate
Under Indonesian rules the applicant must be an Indonesian legal entity — your own subsidiary, or an importer or distributor you appoint. This is the single most common reason a certification project stalls before it begins. If you do not have either yet, that is a solvable problem, and it is worth solving deliberately rather than by handing the certificate to whoever happens to be shipping your goods.
The certificate itself does not expire
Nearly every English-language guide states that an Indonesian certificate is valid for three years, and several add that it may be renewed once. Under Ministerial Regulation 3 of 2024 the certificate carries no expiry date. What runs for three years is something different: the period during which you may keep manufacturing, assembling or importing that device for the Indonesian market. The distinction changes what you file and when.
Which standard applies depends on the radio features, not the product category
A speaker, a treadmill and a breast pump can all end up under the same technical standard, because what matters is the radio inside. Indonesian standards are issued per feature — short-range devices, wireless LAN, cellular, wireless power transfer — and a single product often falls under more than one at the same time.
